The New Yarra Valley Wedding Venue You NEED to See: Boat O’Craigo

If you’ve spent any time researching Yarra Valley wedding venues lately, there’s a good chance you’ve come across Boat O’Craigo.

For years, it has been known as one of Healesville’s most loved wineries. Now, after a major expansion and the addition of a purpose-built events space, it’s quickly becoming one of the most exciting new wedding venues in the region.

Recently, I sat down with Boat O’Craigo’s wedding coordinator, Caity, to chat about the venue, what makes it different, and why she believes couples are falling in love with it the moment they walk through the doors.

And honestly? After hearing her talk about the space – and seeing it in person –  it’s not hard to see why.

A New Chapter for Boat O’Craigo Weddings in the Yarra Valley

The move into weddings wasn’t a dramatic change of direction for Boat O’Craigo. According to Caity, it was a natural evolution.

“Exactly that, space!” she laughs.

“With our multi-million-dollar extension now complete, Boat O’Craigo has evolved into one of the Yarra Valley’s most exciting new wedding destinations.”

For couples, that means all the things you’d expect from an established Yarra Valley winery, paired with a completely new events experience designed specifically for weddings.

The Views Are The First Thing You’ll Notice

When I asked Caity what surprises couples most when they visit, her answer came instantly.

“Honestly, the entire venue.”

“From the road, you don’t see much, but the moment you arrive and step through those double doors, it’s the view that stops people in their tracks.”

“That first reaction, that look of complete awe, is always pretty special.”

It’s a sentiment I’ve heard from couples time and time again when visiting venues. Sometimes the magic isn’t in the photos. It’s that feeling you get when you stand in the space for the first time.

At Boat O’Craigo, that feeling seems to happen a lot.

What Makes Boat O’Craigo Different From Other Yarra Valley Wedding Venues?

The Yarra Valley isn’t short on incredible wedding venues.

From historic chapels to sprawling vineyard estates, couples are spoilt for choice.

So where does Boat O’Craigo fit into the mix?

“What sets us apart is our aesthetic,” Caity explains.

“We’re not rustic, which is a signature of many Yarra Valley venues.”

Instead, the venue feels modern and refined while still maintaining warmth and character.

Think floor-to-ceiling windows, black steel-framed glass doors, beautifully landscaped gardens and a striking stone fireplace that anchors the reception space.

Then there are the views.

“Positioned on the edge of the Black Spur, our elevation gives us a real visual advantage.”

“The views stretch across our 25-acre vineyard estate and out to mountain ranges so close it feels like you could reach out and touch them.”

The Kind of Couple Who Falls in Love With Boat O’Craigo

Every venue attracts a certain type of couple.

According to Caity, Boat O’Craigo tends to resonate with people looking for a balance of modern design and natural beauty.

“Couples who are looking for that balance of nature, romance, and modern design.”

“There’s a relaxed but elevated feel here.”

She also notes that many couples appreciate how streamlined the planning process feels.

“We attract couples who appreciate simplicity. Our packages are designed to include as much as possible, making the planning process feel far less overwhelming.”

What a Wedding Day at Boat O’Craigo Actually Looks Like

One thing I loved hearing from Caity was how intentionally the entire wedding day has been designed.

Rather than trying to make one space do everything, each part of the celebration has its own dedicated location.

The ceremony takes place in The Pavilion.

“Couples are framed by vineyard views, forest, and the silhouette of Mt Riddell. It’s a truly breathtaking setting.”

From there, guests move to The Deck for drinks and canapés while soaking in the scenery.

Then comes what Caity calls the grand reveal.

“When it’s time for the reception, the curtains are drawn back to reveal Glasshouse, and it’s always a wow moment.”

The reception space is flooded with natural light and surrounded by vineyard and mountain views.

It’s easy to imagine guests settling in for a long lunch or dancing well into the evening as the sun drops behind the mountains.

A Yarra Valley Winery Wedding Venue Designed for Victorian Weather

Anyone planning a wedding in Victoria knows one thing for certain.

You need a backup plan.

Fortunately, this was something the Boat O’Craigo team considered from the very beginning.

“Everything has been thoughtfully designed and very much Melbourne-proofed so that the day flows effortlessly regardless of the weather.”

The layout allows guests to move naturally between spaces while still maintaining that feeling of connection throughout the celebration.

“Even within the reception space, everything happens together. Dining, speeches, cake cutting and dancing.”

“It keeps the energy cohesive and connected.”

The Photo Location Caity Can’t Stop Thinking About

As a photographer, I couldn’t leave without asking about her favourite photo spot.

The answer surprised me.

Not the vineyards.

Not the mountain views.

The stairs.

“I’m obsessed with the stairs leading from The Pavilion up to Glasshouse.”

“There’s a specific angle photographers capture that brings together the architecture, the gardens, and the views beyond, and it gets me every time.”

She also loves the drone perspective.

“Angled drone images can look spectacular because we are literally surrounded by mountains.”

And honestly, she’s not wrong.

Boat O’Craigo, More Than Just Great Wine

As you’d expect from an established winery, food and wine are a huge focus at Boat O’Craigo.

Couples work alongside Locavore Catering to personalise their menu and create an experience that reflects them.

The venue also offers complimentary wine tastings before the wedding.

“We invite couples to curate a beverage selection that perfectly suits their tastes.”

Which, if you’re getting married at a winery, feels like a pretty enjoyable item to tick off the wedding planning checklist.

The Little Things Guests Never See

Some of the most meaningful moments happen away from the spotlight.

Caity shared a few of her favourite examples.

“We offer couples the chance to arrive before the ceremony for a first look, which helps ease nerves and creates a really meaningful moment together.”

She also loves creating a private pause before the reception begins.

“We take couples aside before the reception starts for a drink, a bite to eat, and a moment to take it all in.”

It’s a simple gesture, but one that often becomes a couple’s favourite memory of the day.

Meet the Woman Behind the Weddings

Before joining Boat O’Craigo, Caity spent years working within some of Victoria’s most respected wedding venues.

That experience shows.

“A strong focus on communication and care.”

“Having worked in established venues, I understand how luxury service operates, and that’s something we’re building here.”

When I asked what couples need most from a coordinator in those final weeks before the wedding, her answer was refreshingly simple.

“Someone calm, level-headed and supportive.”

And when things don’t quite go to plan?

“Flexibility is key.”

“Timelines can shift, sometimes because that golden hour light suddenly hits just right, and that’s completely normal.”

The Future of Weddings at Boat O’Craigo

Boat O’Craigo still feels like one of the Yarra Valley’s best-kept wedding secrets, but I don’t think that will last for long.

When I asked Caity what excites her most about the future, her answer perfectly summed up the feeling I got throughout our conversation.

“Being able to share this incredible place with more couples and bring their dream days to life.”

“It’s such a special setting, and we’re only just getting started.”

And finally, if she had to describe Boat O’Craigo in just three words?

“Modern. Romantic. VIEWS.”

Honestly, I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Long before their wedding day, Lorne had already become part of Bridie & Nathan’s relationship. While Bridie was working as a seasonal firefighter in the area and Nathan was living three hours away in Bendigo, he spent countless weekends making the drive down the coast to see her.

As Bridie put it, “I’m a bush lover and he’s such a beach lover so it made even more sense that we would marry here, where these two worlds collide.”

Their wedding at The Peak Country Club felt like a reflection of exactly that. Relaxed, nature inspired, full of love, and completely true to who they are.

From the very beginning, Kate and Jordan’s focus for their wedding was simple: they wanted a day that felt relaxed, fun, and full of the people they love most.

As Kate put it:

“We wanted everyone to feel like it was a big family reunion with just some extra flowers added.”

And I can certainly say that perfectly sums up their beautiful autumn wedding at Inglewood Estate.
