Villa Balbiano Wedding Inspiration in Lake Como

Where old-world romance meets modern elegance in the heart of Italy

Tucked away on the western shores of Lake Como, framed by dramatic alpine peaks and sculpted gardens, Villa Balbiano is the kind of place you almost have to see to believe. And this shoot—starring the effortlessly stylish Eduardo and Francesca—was every bit as dreamy as the setting promised.

Set against the grandeur of one of Italy’s most iconic wedding venues, this editorial wasn’t about over-the-top opulence. It was about curated beauty, thoughtful detail, and the kind of magic that happens when you blend soft, modern styling with timeless European charm.

The Story Behind the Shoot

Eduardo and Francesca felt like they belonged here—as if the villa had been waiting for them all along. The morning began in soft light and quiet excitement, with the kind of calm energy that comes when everything has been planned just right. Francesca slipped into a sculptural gown by Wona Concept, the silhouette dramatic yet understated, her hair pulled back simply, letting her natural beauty (and that veil) do all the talking.

They were every bit the Italian couple you’d imagine in a modern-day love story—effortless and chic, surrounded by friends dressed in black-tie glamour as they shared vows beneath a floral arch that echoed the lake’s gentle curves.

And later? A classic wooden Riva boat gliding across the lake as the mountains watched on. Just the two of them, champagne in hand, hearts full.

Getting Married at Villa Balbiano

If you’re dreaming of a wedding in Italy that feels luxurious but grounded, elegant but warm—Villa Balbiano is it. With its sweeping cypress-lined gardens, 16th-century façade, and private lake access, it’s a venue that speaks volumes before the day even begins.

Whether you’re planning an intimate destination wedding or a full-scale celebration, it’s a place where everything feels intentional. The textures, the light, the energy—it all lends itself to photos that feel alive and transportive.

The Design & Details

The creative vision behind this shoot came to life thanks to an incredibly talented team of international vendors. The floral design by Botanica Event leaned into sculptural shapes and soft romantic tones—think layered whites, blushes, and fresh greenery that felt both refined and organic.

Stationery by Papier Handmade, delicate jewellery from Sarah Gauc, and a perfectly tailored tuxedo by Carlo Pignatelli all pulled together a look that was editorial yet deeply personal.

Every detail was designed with storytelling in mind—and every moment felt intentional, from the early morning stillness to the final golden-hour portraits.

About Emma

I’m Emma, a wedding and elopement photographer based in Melbourne and travelling worldwide. My approach is calm and intentional—I work with couples who want their day to feel as beautiful as it looks, without pressure or performative moments.

Photography, for me, is about more than capturing a day. It’s about giving you space to be present in it.

I only take on a limited number of weddings each year so I can give each couple the attention and care they deserve.

If that sounds like the kind of experience you’re after, I’d love to hear from you.

Let’s capture the wedding photos you’ve always dreamed of! Get in touch today.

Some couples leave things to chance.

Claire is not one of those people.

Before we even talk about the architecture, the styling, or the dance floor that stayed packed all night, we need to talk about the fact that Claire hired not one, but THREE different Etsy witches to cast a very specific weather spell for her wedding day.

The brief? No rain. Partly sunny. Somewhere between 22 and 27 degrees.

And quite surprisingly, it worked.

If you’ve ever wished you could get married somewhere that feels like Italy — olive groves, rolling hills, wine, late-night feasts, pasta course after course, and that easy-going joie de vivre included — then you’re not alone and this is exactly how I wanted my own wedding day to feel.

One of the first things many couples tell me when they reach out is they want their wedding to feel romantic, intimate, soulful, and yes, Italian in spirit.

There’s something I’ve noticed more and more over the past few seasons of wedding photography: brides are having fun with their fashion again. They’re changing outfits, breaking rules, dancing harder, and choosing pieces that feel like an extension of who they actually are.

And when it comes to bridal mini dresses, one name keeps coming up again and again: Aston Bridal.

I recently sat down (virtually) with Miranda-Lee Aston, founder and designer behind the Sydney-based brand, to talk all things bridal minis.
